The Witch and the Gundam
Its been sometime since the last Gundam anime came out, But now its finally here! let’s welcome the first ever female Gundam Protagonist Suletta Mercury to the Gundam Franchise.
Suletta Mercury a 17 year old red hair girl from mercury arrived at the Asticassia's School Of Technology’s piloting department with her very on list of making new friends and having her own dream of becoming a teacher back at her own planet.
On her way to the academy, she spotted someone drifting of away in space from the academy. Fearing for the person’s life she launched out in her Mobile Suit to save that person. After rescuing her to her disbelief she got yelled at by that person because she just foiled that person attempt to escape from that place.
That person later revealed that her name was Miorine Rembran and she told suletta that she was running away as to avoid being the bride to current holder/groom Guel Jeturk and this entire point was set up by her Dad in an order for company politics. At this point of time Guel entered her place and demanded that Miorine should just give in and become his bride arrogantly (yes Guel was a big time jerk). Which then Suletta slapped his bum and said ‘You can’t act like this! Didn’t your mom teach you manners?’
If you run, you gain one, but if you move forward, you gain two
After the whole incident, Jeturk walked away confidently knowing that he has the current holder has Miorine destiny deadlocked as he is the current holder and whomever the holder is will determined Miorine’ groom and be wed according to the rules set by her father Delling Rembran. Knowing there is no escape and how she will always be a pawn to in her father’s endless games, Miorine Decided to take hold of her own destiny and forth to challenge Guel by herself.
She stole Suletta’s Mobile Suit and rushed of to challenge him. Guel knowing she had no chance in hell of ever winning him, He accepted her challenge to crush out her remanding rebellious spirit once and for all. Thus began this cruel game of Guel bullying Miorine into submission and absolute dominance over her. Guel came in his proud mobile suit MD-0032G Guel’s Dilanza a rose coloured Armor with a significant feather type crest on his head unit and it carries a standard Beam Rifle and a single bladed beam. But its main weapon is the Beam Partizan a three-pronged beam blade for slashing its foe apart.
Not knowing how to use Suletta’s Mobile Suit at all, Miorine was struggling and was being played around by Guel and his experience. Knowing that her Mobile Suit was stolen, Suletta then rushed into the middle of the battlefield to get back into her Mobile Suit. The match had to be paused because as per rule the match is won by whoever takes out their opponent’s head antenna and no one is to be allowed in on the grounds during a fight.
Suletta managed to get on to her mobile suit with Miorine still being inside and ask to switched between Miorine to herself Which Guel in all his over-confidence agreed thus began the true battle. Guel began shooting at Suletta, as the her Mobile Suit was standing up, Suletta was saying this beautiful line that her mother told her and I quote “if you run, you gain one, but if you move forward, you gain two” as to Miorine asked ‘If you moved forward you will win?’ and Suletta said ‘Even if you don’t win you gain experience, pride and trust!”
The True Battle began with Gundam Aerial Launching its Gund-Bits that was covering it body as a form Armor to form a shield against Guels Beam rifle knowing his shots won’t work against the shield Guel foolishly charged towards Aerial with his Beam Partizan not knowing Aerial’s full capabilities, Suletta launched out Aerial’s Gund-Bits which start attacking Guel’s Dilanza fiercely like a dog protecting it master.
Guel and his Dilanza was no match for for the power of the Gund-Bits as it sliced and diced through his machine limbs as if a piece of paper being sliced. Being incapacitated as his machine slowly falls to the ground he was saying to himself “What is that Mobile Suit?!” as to one of the main admin silently said out “Gun-arm….Gundam”. Aerial proceed to go ahead and cut of his head antenna even though she completely destroyed him.
Bride And Groom
Ending Guel’s winning streak opened up a new chapter for Miorine as she walks out from Aerials Cockpit seeing the feathers scatter around as a sign of her getting back her freedom and finally getting out from Guel’s clutches. As she stands there in awe looking at the scene, our beloved Suletta crawled out (Yes Crawled Out) from her cockpit saying that she won in a shaky voice as to Miorine replied with “Yes you are now the current Holder” as she proceeds to key that information into her ID Device which changed her current emblem to the holder’s emblem which changed the uniform from green to white. White represents the Current Holder’s Title.
Miorine continues to tell that it’s also the emblem of her fiancée which Suletta with again her shaky voice said “But I am a girl” which Miorine replied with “I guess Mercury is rather conservative, that sort of thing is common here. Nice to meet you My Groom”
My EP 1 Conclusion
I have been a huge Gundam fan for a long time from the very first grandad Gundam RX-78 and I can say that of all the Gundam’s I have watched, Witch From Mercury is something refreshing from its common war-torn stories and also it stars a loveable Female protagonist Suletta Mercury. With her innocence and bright eyes, she kind of reminds me of a ‘Tanuki’ which is the Japanese term for a raccoon.
It starts of fresh and shows how powerful a Gundam truly is and how futuristic it can be, with its beautifully composed OST made from what is clearly a well performed Orchestra and its opening song by the queen herself YOASOBI, Gundam The Witch From Mercury is a spectacle Gundam anime for both Old and Newcomers to the Gundam Franchise.
