The Game Awards 2022 and Security
Let’s talk about that kid
You know the kid that decided to speak on the microphone after FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki acceptance speech for Game of the Year? Yea, I want to talk about that kid for a bit and the security at The Game Awards
Firstly, I wanted to start things off with a congratulations to FromSoftware on winning the Game of the Year for Elden Ring, it is very well deserved. A brilliant game with a brilliant story.
Next, I would like to talk about security at The Game Awards because no one should be able to get on stage as easily as that kid.
Especially when you are hosting a ton of very talented and famous people in the gaming industry. Something was messed up there and I don’t understand it.
Firstly, how was he able to just march up to the stage with staff from FromSoftware when he was walking from a completely different aisle?
Not only did he bypass any kind of security that was there, but he also just walked up on stage and stood right next to Hidetaka Miyazaki the entire time he made his acceptance speech!
Sure, it’s funny at first but when you realize how badly this could’ve gone, a kid wearing a baggy coat where you can’t see anything? Yea, it’s very bad.
Lucky for everyone there, all he did was get on the microphone after Miyazaki did his speech and said “I’d like to dedicate this award to my reformed orthodox rabbi Bill Clinton.” and tried to get off-stage as fast as possible but got escorted backstage by event security
You can see the entire thing happen right here
Obviously, after being brought backstage the kid was promptly arrested for that moment, as confirmed by Geoff Keighley on Twitter
Hopefully, next year’s The Game Awards will be more secure and not allow random strangers who just bought a ticket be allowed on the same floor as the talent from the game industry
